Eggless Orange Cake With Orange Marmalade Glaze

Servings: 1 pound cake, serves 4-5

Cooking Time: 45-50 minutes


Dry Ingredients-

  • 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour (maida)
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup curd/yogurt (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup oil (any refined oil can be used like peanut oil, sunflower oil, vegetable oil etc)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (at room temperature)


  • 2 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 tbsp oil for greasing the cake pan
  • 2 tbsp flour for dusting the cake pan

Orange Marmalade Glaze-

  • 1/4 cup orange marmalade
  • 3 tbsp water


Sieve all the dry ingredients ( i.e. all purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt) in a deep bowl and mix it nicely. Our dry ingredients are ready.

In another bowl take curd and add oil in it. Whisk it nicely so that curd and oil is mixed thoroughly.

Now add sugar and whisk all the ingredients till sugar is dissolved completely. Our Wet Ingredients are also ready.

Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix all the ingredients gently.

Now also add orange juice and gently mix it to make a smooth batter. Cake batter should not have any lumps in it. Do not over whisk the batter.

Finally add orange zest and mix it in the batter. Our cake batter is ready to be baked. Pre heat oven for about 10 minutes at 180 degree celsius or 350 degree fahrenheit. 

Prepare a cake pan (you can use any cake pan of your choice,I have used a rectangle disposable aluminium cake pan) by greasing with oil and dusting with flour nicely.Pour the batter in the cake pan and tap it well. We tap the cake pan after pouring the batter so that if there is any air bubbles in the batter,it will escape.

Now bake the cake for about 30-35 minutes. After 25 minutes check the cake by inserting a clean knife or tooth pick at multiple places and if it comes out clean this means cake has been baked properly.If not then bake it more for about 5 minutes and then check it again. When cake has been baked completely, take it out from the oven safely and let it cool for about 10 mins in the pan and then unmould it on the wire rack or any tray or plate.  In the mean time we will make our glaze.

In a pan take orange marmalade and add water in it. Keep the gas on low to medium heat. I have used store bought marmalade. Keep stirring the glaze and simmer it for 5-7 minutes till it becomes syrupy. Switch off the gas and pour this delicious glaze over the cake with a help of a spoon. Cover the cake nicely with the glaze. Let it set for few minutes.

Super scrumptious Orange Cake with orange marmalade glaze is ready to be enjoyed with a hot cup of tea or coffee. You can also serve this with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream. This is a perfect crowd pleasure. You can make this ahead of time when you are having a party and then just slice it and serve. Store this cake in a airtight container. It is good for 4-5 days. Handy Tip:-

  • You can also use whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour.
  • The orange sponge is itself super delicious, if you do not want to add the glaze just skip it and enjoy the sponge as it is. If you are planning to skip the glaze then add 3/4 cup sugar instead of 1/2 cup as I have reduced the sugar in the cake to balance the overall sweetness as orange marmalade is also very sweet.
