Servings: 1 pound cake,serves 4-5
Cooking Time: approx 1 hour
- 1.5 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 cup curd/yogurt
- 1/2 cup oil
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
For apple layer-
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 apples peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp lime juice
Take a bowl and add whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon powder. Mix all the ingredients nicely. Our dry ingredients are ready.
In another bowl add curd, oil, brown sugar and vanilla extract.
With a whisker mix all the wet ingredients nicely till there is no lumps and you get a smooth mixture. Our Wet ingredients are ready.
Add dry ingredients in the wet ingredients in batches and mix nicely. Add milk while mixing the batter to get a smooth batter. Do not over beat the batter, just mix it nicely so that there are no lumps in it. Our cake batter is ready.
Now we will layer the cake pan with apple. I have used round cake pan, you can use any cake pan of your choice. Take melted butter and smear the whole cake pan nicely with butter. Cover all sides of the cake pan with butter nicely. There will be little extra butter in the pan but it is necessary for the apple layer.
Take apple slices and arrange it on the pan in any manner you like. Sprinkle brown sugar all over the apple slices evenly.
Now take lime juice and add it all over the apple layer evenly with the help of a spoon.
Our apple layer is ready.
Pour the prepared batter and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon.Tap the cake pan once or twice on your kitchen counter top so that any air bubbles present there would escape. Pre heat oven for about 15 minutes at 180 degree celsius or 350 degree fahrenheit.
Now bake the cake for about 20-25 minutes. After 25 minutes check the cake by inserting a clean knife or tooth pick at multiple places and if it comes out clean this means cake has been baked properly. If not then bake it more for about 5 minutes and then check it again. Take out the cake from the oven safely and let it cool for about 10-15 mins in the pan.
Place a plate on the cake pan and invert it with the plate, tap the cake pan slowly on all the sides and then lift the cake pan slowly. (See the video above for better clarity)

This is a super delicious cake, I bet you won’t be able to stop in a single slice of cake. This is one of my favorite cake. Slice a big piece of cake and enjoy it with your hot cup of coffee or tea. Nothing more warming, cozy and comfy in the chilli winters. I can gobble this cake any time of the day (This is a proof how sweet addict I am or may be cake addict). Store this cake in an air tight container, it is good for around 4-5 days. You can also serve this cake to your guest with a scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with hot caramel and sprinkle some chopped walnuts or pecans on top of it (isn’t it so tempting).
