Cooking Time: 1 hour
- 1.5 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- a pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup banana puree
- 2/3 cup oil (any refined oil like peanut, vegetable oil, sunflower oil etc can be used)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar / normal sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (vanilla essence)
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi sweet or dark chocolate any can be used)
- 1 tbsp oil/butter for greasing the cake pan
- 2 tbsp flour for dusting the cake pan
Take a deep bowl and add whole wheat flour and cocoa powder in it.
Now add baking powder, baking soda and salt in it. Mix all the ingredients very nicely. Our dry ingredients are ready.
Take 1 over riped banana and mash it nicely with fork or blend it in a blender to get smooth banana puree.Approximately 1 big banana gives 1/2 cup banana puree.If you want more of banana flavor you can add more 1/2 cup banana puree.
In another deep bowl add banana puree, oil, sugar and vanilla extract.
Mix all the ingredients nicely till sugar is dissolved and there are no lumps in the mixture.
Now add dry ingredients in batches in the wet ingredients and mix it nicely.
Using milk, mix all the dry ingredients in wet ingredients and make a smooth batter.The batter should neither be too thick nor too thin, it should be of medium consistency. There should not be any lumps in the batter. Pre heat oven for about 10 minutes at 180 degree celsius or 350 degree fahrenheit.
Prepare a cake loaf pan (you can use any pan of your choice) by greasing and dusting with flour nicely. Pour the batter in the cake pan and tap it well. We tap the tin after pouring the batter so that if there is any air bubbles in the batter,it will escape.
Take chocolate morsels/chips and top the cake with that nicely. Now bake the cake for about 25-30 minutes.
After 20 minutes check the cake by inserting a clean knife or tooth pick at multiple places and if it comes out clean this means cake has been baked properly.If not then bake it more for about 5-10 minutes and then check it again.
Take out the cake from the oven safely and let it cool for about 10 mins in the pan and then unmould it on the wire rack and let it cool completely. Then you can cut it and serve with hot tea or coffee as it is or you can warm this cake a little bit in microwave and then serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, yum yum. Store it in an air tight container. This cake is good for 4-5 days. Do try this and please let me know how you like it. Enjoy !!
