Cooking Time: 15 minutes
- 1 cup plain curd (Dahi , yogurt)
- 1.5 cups water
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp black salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds (sarso)
- 1-2 green chillies finely chopped (you can adjust it according to taste)
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- Few curry leaves
- 3-4 mint leaves
Take 1 cup curd in a deep bowl and add 1.5 cups of water in it.
Mix it nicely with help of whisker or spoon. There should not be any lumps and should be smooth in texture. Add salt, roasted cumin powder and black salt and mix it nicely. Buttermilk base is ready. You can also consume buttermilk like this or can also temper it as described below.
For tempering the buttermilk we will need grated ginger, finely chopped green chilies and curry leaves. Take oil in a small pan and keep it on medium heat.
When oil is hot enough add mustard seeds and when seeds starts crackling add curry leaves. Be very careful while adding curry leaves as it can splutter.
Now add grated ginger and green chillies and saute it for a minute or so and then add it immediately to the buttermilk.
Finely chop the mint leaves or crush it in a mortar pestle and add it to the buttermilk.
Delicious and healthy spiced buttermilk is ready in no time. You can consume as you make it or even you can keep it in refrigerator for sometime and then consume it. Buttermilk is very healthy and very cooling specially in summers. All the ingredients used like cumin powder, curry leaves, ginger, mint etc all have lots of medicinal benefits and very good for our health.
