Chana Daal Chutney

Servings: 1 small bowl

Cooking Time: 15 minutes (excludes soaking time)


  • Half cup Chana Daal
  • 2-3 green chilies (you can adjust it according to taste)
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1-2 whole dry red chillies


Step 1: First of all we have to dry roast the daal. Take a pan/kadhai and when it is hot add chana daal to it.Keep the gas on medium heat.Keep stirring the daal so that it does not burn.When the daal starts turning brown in color then it means its roasted,you will also get nice roasted aroma of daal. Switch off the heat and then soak the daal in plenty of water for at least 2-3 hours.

Step 2: When daal has been soaked properly then rinse the daal nicely and then add them in a blender jar.Also add green chilies,ginger and garlic to it.Grind all the ingredients to a smooth paste using little water as required.Adjust the consistency of chutney as per your liking using water.

Step 3: Take out the chutney in a bowl and add salt to it.Now we will temper the chutney.Take oil in a small pan and when oil is hot enough then add mustard seeds to it.When the seeds starts crackling then add dry red chillies to it and then pour it on top of the chutney.Lip Smacking Chutney is ready to be enjoyed with any dish of your liking .It goes best with uttapam,Idli and Dosa.
