Matar ke Parathe

Servings: 5-6 paratha

Cooking Time: 1 hr

Ingredients:

For Matar Masala/Filling

  • 1.5 cups green peas
  • 4-5 green chilies (you can adjust it according to taste)
  • 1 inch ginger
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder(you can adjust it according to taste)
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • a pinch of dry mango powder
  • 2 tbsp refined oil

For Dough

  • 1.5 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp salt (optional)
  • Water for kneading the dough
  • 2 tbsp wheat flour for rolling
  • Ghee/Oil for smearing and cooking paratha

Procedure:

Step 1: First of all we will prepare matar masala for the parathas. In a blender jar combine green peas, green chillies and ginger, blend it to a smooth paste.

Step 2: Take 2 tbsp oil in a kadhai and when oil is hot enough then add this peas/matar paste.Keep stirring the mixture nicely.Saute it till the mixture is completely dry and there is no moisture in the mixture.

Step 3: Now add salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder and a pinch of dry mango powder and mix it well.Roast the mixture nicely for about 10 minutes.Keep the gas on medium heat. When the mixture is ready then take it out on plate and let it cool.

Step 4:We will now prepare dough for the parathas. Combine the flour, 1 tbsp of oil and salt in a bowl and knead into a soft dough using enough water. Cover and keep it aside for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 5: Divide the dough into 5-6 equal portions and roll out each portion of the dough into a small circle.Smear some ghee/oil on top and place a spoon full of matar masala in the center of the circle.Bring together all the sides in the center and seal tightly. Roll again into a circle using little flour.Roll little gently,if you will apply more pressure then masala will come out from the sides of the paratha.

Step 6: Heat a tava and when it is hot place the paratha gently over it.Cook until brown spots appear on one side of paratha then flip the paratha and cook it on the other side.Keep the gas on medium heat.

Step 7: Now cook the paratha from both the side by applying ghee/oil till it is golden brown in color.Hot and tasty paratha is ready.Serve it with tomato chutney, curd or any curry of your choice. Enjoy !!
