Bread Upma

Servings: 2-3

Cooking Time: 30 minutes


  • 7-8 white bread slices
  • 2-3 tbsp refined oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves (optional)
  • 4-5 green chilies chopped
  • 1 big onion sliced
  • 1 big tomato finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • Red chilli powder to taste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup milk if required


Step 1:Take oil in a kadhai and when oil is hot enough add mustard seeds.When mustard seeds starts to crackle then add green chilies and saute it for few seconds.

Step 2:Now add onion and saute it till it is translucent in color, add tomatoes and mix nicely.

Step 3: Add salt,turmeric powder,red chilli powder and pepper powder.Cook till tomatoes are fully cooked.It will take around 5-7 minutes.

Step 4: Cut the bread into cubes.Out of 1 slice you can make around 9 cubes.When onion and tomatoes are cooked properly add bread cubes and mix very nicely.If the upma is dry the add little bit of milk and mix nicely.Then keep stirring the upma till it is cooked nicely that is around 5 minutes.Garnish with finely chopped coriander and serve with tomato ketchup.Enjoy !!
