Janmashtami Special Recipes

Hello Friends,

Today I am going post recipes for Janmashtami, also known as Gokulashtami. This festivals celebrates the birth of lord Krishna. This festival is celebrated by keeping fast, singing devotional songs of love for Krishna, and celebrations that go well into the night. After Krishna’s midnight hour birth, statues of baby Krishna are washed and clothed, then placed in a cradle. The devotees then break their fast, by sharing food and sweets. Women draw tiny foot prints outside their house doors and kitchen, walking towards their house, a symbolism for Krishna’s journey into their homes.

Lord Krishna loves milk products like yogurt, butter and sweets made out of them. Krishna would try all sorts of creative ideas in his pursuit, such as making human pyramids with his friends to break these high hanging pots. This story is the theme of numerous beliefs on Hindu temples across India, as well as literature and dance-drama repertoire, symbolizing the joyful innocence of children, that love and life’s play is the manifestation of god. This festival is celebrated all over India in many different forms.

We also celebrate this festival at my place by decorating the small temple in our home, keeping fast and by preparing numerous sweets. Today I am sharing all those recipes which I prepare every year for lord Krishna. Click on the recipe name for the full detailed recipe.
