Servings: 6 small pizza or 2 medium sized pizza or 1 large pizza
Cooking Time: Approx 1 hour except raising time of the dough
For the pizza dough –
- 2.5 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil (you can also use any other refined oil like peanut oil, vegetable oil etc)
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
For the toppings – (Adjust the quantities according to your liking so I have not specified the measurement)
- Pizza sauce (Get the recipe on a click)
- Few slices of red onion
- Pickled jalapenos (Get the recipe on a click)
- Few slices of red bell pepper
- Few slices of green bell pepper
- Black pepper powder
- Red Chili flakes
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Shredded parmesan cheese (optional)
Take warm water in a bowl and add sugar in it. Stir it nicely so that sugar gets dissolved completely. Now add active dry yeast, do not stir it or disturb it. Leave it for about 5-10 mins to get activated.
In few minutes you will see that yeast has worked and it has become frothy. It will look like the picture given above. This is also a trick to know whether yeast is still good or not. If it has not become frothy then it means yeast is not working, discard this and start again with a fresh pack of yeast.
Take whole wheat flour in a bowl and add salt, oil and honey in it. Mix all the ingredients very nicely.
Now add activated yeast and water mixture in the flour and knead it into a soft dough.
Shape the dough in the form of a ball, apply some oil on top of it and cover the dough and keep it in a warm place to rise. It will take around 1 hour for the dough to rise. The dough will rise and become double its size. Unfortunately I do not have picture of the risen dough. Punch the dough down and take out the dough on a clean surface.
Knead the dough again for 5-7 minutes and make balls out it. Make balls according to the size of pizza you want. This much dough is good for 1 large pizza , 2 medium sized pizza and 6 small personal pizza. I like more thin crust pizza so I have made 8 small personal pizza out of this dough.
Now take little dough and roll it with help of a rolling pin into the size of your choice. Take a baking tray and line it with aluminium foil or parchment paper and arrange the pizza on it.
Generously apply pizza sauce on each of the rolled dough and
top it with any topping of your choice. I have added red onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper and pickled jalapenos. You can also add mushrooms, olives, pineapple , spinach, sweetcorn etc. Sprinkle little bit of salt, black pepper powder, oregano and chili flakes on top and then load each pizza with lots of mozzarella cheese. You can also add little bit of parmesan for little more cheesiness. Pre heat oven for about 10 minutes at 180 degree celsius or 350 degree fahrenheit and then bake the pizza for about 20-25 minutes or till it is done.
Delicious and mouthwatering pizza is ready to be enjoyed with friends and family. This pizza is healthy and delicious at the same time. You can also store this dough in freezer for around a month. Just put this dough in a zip lock and freeze it. When ever you want to have a pizza, take out the dough and thaw it till it is soft . Then roll out the pizza, top it with topping of your choice and pop it in the oven and fresh homemade pizza is ready in no time at all. Do try this out friends and please let me know how you like it.
