Aloo ka Halwa

Hello Friends,

Today I am going to share the recipe of aloo ka halwa. This is a very simple desert which was mostly made on vrat days (fasting days) as it do not have any kind of flour in it.It is a mandatory sweet dish on the festival of Shiv Ratri. Aloo ka Halwa was made only twice or thrice in the whole year so during my childhood days I used to look forward to the festivals on which this was made and was super excited from the morning itself  and told my granny to make little extra for me and she would happily oblige.Do try this friends and let me know how you like.

Servings: 2

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 big sized potato boiled and peeled
  • 4 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • 6 tbsp sugar (you can add more if you want more sweet)
  • Few almonds for garnishing (optional)

Procedure:

Aloo ka Halwa 1

Boil and peel two big size potatoes.

Aloo ka Halwa 2

Mash the potatoes very nicely, there should not be any lumps. It should be smooth in texture.

Aloo ka Halwa 3

Take ghee in a deep kadhai/pan and put it on medium heat.

Aloo ka Halwa 4

When ghee is hot enough, add mashed potatoes in it

Aloo ka Halwa 5

and mix it nicely with the ghee.Keep the gas on medium heat.

Keep stirring it continuously otherwise it will stick to the bottom of the kadhai and burn. The above picture shows different stages of halwa while roasting. Keep gas on medium heat only.I takes around 15-20 minutes to roast completely.

Aloo ka Halwa 8

When the ghee will start coming out from the sides and the potatoes starts turning little brownish then it means it is roasted completely. It will look like the picture shown above.

Aloo ka Halwa 9

Now add sugar in it and stir nicely. When sugar has dissolved and mixed nicely with the potatoes then switch off the gas immediately. Aloo halwa is ready.

Aloo ka Halwa 10

Super delicious aloo ka halwa is ready to be enjoyed with friends and family.Take it out on serving dish, garnish with some almonds and serve it warm.It is super easy and do not take much time. You can also make this ahead of time and when ever you want to serve it,you can warm this in the kadhai or in microwave for few seconds. It takes no time.Do try this and let me know how you like it.Enjoy !!
